What is the Definition of Family Class Sponsorship?
Sponsorship programmes are available in Canada for permanent inhabitants who seek to bring their loved ones to the country. Several members of the family are eligible to become permanent residents of Canada through these programmes. Family Class Sponsorship programmes, which are amongst the most popular types of Immigration to Canada, make this easy for citizens and permanent residents to bring their spouses and immediate relatives to Canada with shortened response time, because Canada understands that family must never be placed on hold.
Is there anyone I can sponsor to come to Canada?
Conjugal Partner, Spouse, or Common-law Partner – Whether your husband, common-law partner, or amorous companion is in Canada on a valid temporary visa or living overseas, you might well be able to sponsor them for permanent resident status in Canada. Supported people can work in Canada while their Canada immigration family sponsorship application is being handled with a spousal open work permit.
Endorsement by a parent or grandparent – Through the parent and grandparent sponsorship programme, Canada’s commitment to family reunification extends to parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Citizens and legal residents will be required to show that they can financially support their family by meeting the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for the size of their family unit in order to sponsor a parent or grandparent.
Sponsorship for children or other dependent – As long as they are single and have no offspring of their own, Canadian citizens and legal residents can sponsor their biological or adopted children under the age of 22 for permanent residence in Canada. If a child above the age of 22 has a medical or mental disability that prohibits them from supporting oneself, then may indeed be termed a dependant.
Orphaned sibling, niece, nephew, or grandchild – Canadian citizens or Legal Citizens may be able to support an orphaned sibling, sister, nephew, niece, or grandchild to come to Canada in certain circumstances. To sponsor an orphaned relative, they must be unmarried, under the age of 18, and blood or adoption connected to you.
How do I become eligible to sponsor a member of my family?
You must meet minimal qualifying standards to sponsor a family member. Sponsors who are eligible must meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
- Be over the age of 18
- Living in Canada or want to return after your spouse or partner is a permanent resident of the country
- Be able and willing to meet your family member’s basic financial needs for three years
Who is ineligible to sponsor a family member?
A permanent resident or citizen may not be able to sponsor in particular circumstances. A sponsor could be disqualified if they have been currently incarcerated, haven’t yet paid alimony or child support, have claimed bankruptcy and have not yet been freed, or have received social assistance for reasons other than disability; failed to repay an immigration loan, made late or missed payments; previously sponsored another relative and failed to meet the terms of the sponsorship agreement; charged and convicted of a criminal activity, whatever crime against a relative, or any serious sexual assault, based on the facts of the case; previously sponsored another relative and failed to fulfill the conditions of the sponsorship agreement; earlier financially supported some other person and failed to meet the terms of the sponsorship agreement
What is the cost of sponsoring a family member in Canada?
A $150 payment will be required for each child included in the application if you are sponsoring your spouse and they have dependent children, or if you are supporting your adopted child. An additional $1,050 is necessary if your relative’s spouse or partner is included. The following is a list of government processing fees for sponsoring a relative in Canada.
- $75 sponsorship fee
- Processing fee for principal applicants is $475.
- The charge for obtaining a permanent residence permit is $500.
- $85 for biometrics
- $1135 in total
Is it necessary for me to have a job in order to sponsor a family member?
Applicants must meet MNI requirements to sponsor a family member who is not a spouse or partner. While a job is not required, sponsors must show proof of sufficient money to maintain their sponsored family members for the previous three years.
